Bandwagon Love

September 10, 2017

You know how people use the term bandwagon? Meaning you jump on board something that is popular, trending, something that the masses agree with. I know a lot of people who are bandwagon riders, bandwagon lovers. They only seem to voice an opinion after others have. Their support is based off the support of others. Their love is based off the love of others. If no one else takes a stand, neither will they.

Isn't it funny how people are only proud of you once you prove yourself to them. Once they can physically see what you have done. God was proud of you before you've done anything at all. Before you've done anything, after you've done everything and done it wrong. God is still proud of you, He still says you're mine, you still belong to me, I still claim you even when no one else will.

See, God first loved us. Meaning before anyone else knew us or thought about us, He loved us. God’s love has never been conditional. God never waited on others to see your value before He blessed you and used you for His glory. He didn’t wait until others supported you before He would. God had no physical evidence on why He should love us, but He does.

Matthew 3:16 -17 tells us, “As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”

At this point in the text Jesus hasn’t done anything special but be an ordinary person for the past 30 years and God says He is well pleased. This is the type of God we serve. The God who loves us on credit. A God who loves us not for what we’ve done or who we are but simply because of whose we are. In fact, God loved us while we were yet still sinners, basically when there was nothing to love. How about that?

I don’t want to be surrounded by bandwagon lovers or supporters. I want to know I have people in my corner who will love me when no one else will. People who stand by my side when others have walked away. I want to know I have a few good people that will come to my rescue even if I look helpless. When all the odds are stacked against me will you still believe in me?

Do you have any bandwagon lovers in your life?
